Defeating the Curse (DTC)

The DC [Sports] Curse is a live and well, and we may have lost yet another round in the long battle, but we will win the war. In the second half of a back-to-back podcast, Stevie and Joe, discuss the upcoming start of Nationals spring training, the collapse of the Wizards, and look towards the Super Bowl with a few bold predictions ahead of next weeks long-form podcast on the final game of the NFL season. The Capitals could defeat the curse, the Wizards and Redskins unlikely, but the Nationals are our best bet right now... right? 

Its been a long time, but LP and FP got together to discuss the Redskins, the Superbowl and the potential draft prospects. The Goal was to not disucss the Kirk Cousins drama....That's basically only discussed the Kirk Cousins drama. The convo then pivots into FP claiming all QBs ranked from 5-25 are the same in quality. Sadly the news was also broken that our beloved Steve has been fired.

The DTC crew is back discussing all things Washington D.C. sports in this episode. There is no DTC podcast with at least talking the Kirk Cousins contract situation. FP, LP, and Joe all discuss the contract situation once again ahead of Kirk's charity event on 1/5/2018. The Wizards and the Capitals are heating up. The guys discuss the amazing job that Bradley Beal is doing, and the under appreciation that Marcin Gortat often gets. In NHL talks, the Vegas Golden Knights seem to have a real home ice advantage, is that a product of being in Vegas?

FP and LP in studio joined by a special guest PB to talk about the new craze in investments. Cryptocurrency. Bitcoin, litecoin, Ripple are all topics of converstation used in this podcast. On this one-off podcast that has nothing to do with DC sports, the guys talk about what is cryptocurrency, what the differences are and all you need to know to get started.

The Redskins are riding a 2-game win streak after suffering a bad blow by the Chargers. After several days of internalizing what this means to the Redskins future, LP and FP are in studio to discuss all things Washington Redskins. Among many topics discussed LP and FP had to discuss the Kirk Cousins contract situation, the job the coaching staff has done, the injuries, and some players who are surprising even us, the biggest of homers. LP and FP finally discuss the meaningless game against the New York Giants with a final week 17 prediction. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the DTC family. 

With the playoffs seemingly out of reach the DTC boys reset expectations for the Redskins coming off a horrible loss at Dallas (2:20 - 11:30) and now headed to LA to face the streaking Chargers (12:15 - 20:30). Joe feels strongly that the team has a lot to play for as does FP, while LP thinks they should be in tank mode (21:00 - 26:50). Nick Hamilton, a reporter covering both the Chargers and Rams for NBC Los Angeles, joins the show starting after the break (27min mark) and breaks down the key matchups and shares his prediction for the game on Sunday. LP and Joe discuss all things Wizards and NBA plus a little bit of the Ball family drama and some bitcoin as well in this weeks episode of Week in Wizards. The team came out flat in Utah and rebounded one night later in Portland... so what can we learn about this team from one poor showing and one "less poor" showing? Well first, Brad Beal is a stud, but secondly, this team is going to struggle to replicate their success from last season. The Redskins went on national TV last night and embarrassed all of their fans and the entire city of Washington DC. It was such a bad performance that Stevie demanded to be heard and joined Joe on Facebook LIVE to vent and air it all out. This is not your regular sports podcast however as when these two get going the destination is always in question. If you want some insight into POTUS tweets or the tax bill, listen to the end. LP, FP, and Joe are joined by Tyler from the Enough the the B.S. Podcast to preview the Redskins at Cowboys matchup on Thursday Night Football. The term must-win gets tossed around a lot but for both teams the season is on the line and the Redskins need another division win to keep things interesting and on track towards a post-season birth. With injuries mounting, suspensions in play, and a (fake) short week of rest this division rivalry game is likely to be ugly, but can the DTC boys convince Tyler to pick against his Cowboys? LP and Joe were LIVE on Facebook talking Wizards after a crushing loss to the Sixers. The Wizards haven't looked like themselves in several games now and surely much of that is because the leader, the best point guard in the east, the undisputed hero of DC; John Wall remains sidelined. But that isn't the only reason the team is struggling. The defense has been poor and with the exception of a few games the bench is slowly coming around but has still been a liability on most nights. The Redskins are headed to New Orleans with the pressure of a near must-win on their shoulders... but LP, FP, and Joe are still picking them to win this week! The injuries to the team continue to increase but there is still hope and as FP demonstrates what didn't work last week, may work this week... so there is always a chance.  Tyler and Dayton from the Who Dat Dish Podcast join the DTC boys (18:14-42:05) for twenty solid minutes to preview the game and even though both picked the Saints to win both predict a close one-score game which means it's a toss-up. The Washington Redskins failed to capitalize after an impressive victory against the Seahawks last week. The team can’t seem to string together a game where the offense, defense, and special teams put together a good, full game. FP, Joe and LP talk who is to blame, there has been some talk about blaming Kirk, which the DTC crew all disagree, there has been talks about blaming the coaches which the crew is split on. Pryor jawed with a fan pregame, where LP thought that would lift his on-field play but unfortunately went 0/0. Maurice Harris had possibly the catch of the year, at least for the Redskins. The defense failed to stop the Vikings from getting in the end zone multiple times. While the offense went 2/4 in the red zone and 2/4 on fourth down conversions. There is a first time for everything... and this is certainly a first. Joe is flying solo on this episode of DTC as last minute changes kept FP and LP from joining as scheduled... but never fear Eric Yeboah is here! That's right! Atlanta Hawks and NBA insider Eric Yeboah sits it for the entire show with Joe and the duo discuss everything NBA from the Wiz slow start, to the slumping Cavs, to the the extremely disappointing Thunder. Joe get's Eric on the record about the idea that the lack of back-to-back games benefit the below average teams then the two proceed to discuss several of those teams that are performing well to start the season. Eric also shares his thoughts on the MVP of the league so far (Harden or M. Gasol) and in an unforeseen twist, the guys start discussing Crunk and Go-Go music. The Vikings and Redskins will battle again this week for the fifth time in eight season. This is the second time in as many seasons that the Vikings will come to DC and just as in past years these teams mirror each other in more than just record and conference positioning. Neither team can run the ball very well and both teams have playoff-caliber defenses. The Vikings have talent at wide receiver with average quarterback play, while the Redskins have talent at quarterback with average (below-average) wide receivers. Joe and Steve recap the week that was in Seattle and preview the upcoming game with BJ Reidell (16:10) who covers the Vikings for multiple outlets including the About the Labor Podcast, VikingsTerritory.com, and Bleacher Report as well. FP, LP, and Joe try to find something (anything) to feel positive about as the Redskins travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Sunday in yet another late afternoon game. The trade deadline in the NFL came and passed and the Redskins failed to secure help at running back, wide receivers, or offensive line so can we really expect to travel cross country and win? Joe tries to explain how these two teams are shockingly similar in strengths and weaknesses, while LP justifies that the defense is good enough to win and... well... FP just disagrees with everything and is becoming very bitter. Sam from HawksCast and Seahawks Fantable joins the boys (23:01) for some crosstalk and shares his thoughts on this odd rivalry and what to expect on Sunday from Seattle. The Wizards had a week to forget losing to the Lakers (blowing a lead), losing to the Warriors (blowing a lead), beating the Kings, and then losing to the horrible Suns at home after having a 20 point lead! LP and Joe talk about all things Wizards and the NBA Eastern Conference over the first half of the podcast and then are joined by Shawn Philpot from the Swinging Swords Podcast based in Cleveland (13:01). Shawn helps break down the craziness in the East and gives LP and Joe a few things to think about regarding this Cavaliers team in context that only a Cleveland fan could. LP and Joe recap the horrible Monday night loss and try to figure out what happened to all the Redskins wide receivers. LP is in semi-panic mode while Joe is in full-panic mode. The Redskins need to get healthy quick as they prepare to face the Cowboys next week in a near-must-win NFC East battle. 
 

The NBA season is back and the Washington Wizards are going to win the Eastern Conference. Joe explains why, while LP and FP take a softer position expecting the Wizards to finish second or third and Stevie asks the "other" question... does it really matter? Stevie is still a tad salty from the Nationals loss, and LP from the USMNT / World Cup disaster, but Joe is pumped and by the end of the episode FP is too! The bottomline is this the best Wizards team we have seen in two decades and with an unlucky injury striking the Celtics every NBA fan should be looking at the Wizards as the most dangerous team in the east... PERIOD! Welcome to NBA 2017-2018! The DTC boys are ready! Are you? 

The Redskins head to Philadelphia on Monday night for a showdown to clarify the top ranks of the NFC East. The 'skins lost to the Eagles in the season opener but Joe and LP are convinced the game should have ended differently. Stevie and FP are more focused on the task at hand and think the Redskins have a reasonable chance to go into Philadelphia and win. One thing is for sure, all four talking heads are finished with TP and this receiver group. They simply must play better. The Eagles can be beat and the Redskins are certainly good enough to do it. Will the Redskins primetime luck continue? LP, FP, and Joe think so (Joe's taking the over too), while Stevie isn't convinced. Who you got Monday Night?

It’s an unimpressive victory Sunday in the nation’s capital, it you didn’t see the game you wouldn’t think the Redskins won based on LP and FP’s outtakes. FP was fired up about Jay Grudens play calling while LP was perfectly putting all the blame on the players. The WR’s were nowhere to be seen, and Chris Thompson once again led the team in receiving yards. The secondary position took some bumps and bruises but ultimately came through with the clutch INT by Kendall Fuller. At the end of the day our former beloved WR Pierre Garcon was the MVP of the Redskins defense. Thank you Pierre. Listen on this week’s instant over reaction show.

This may be the most gut wrenching of them all. For a team that’s suffered three straight NLDS game five losses before tonight, including one in which they led 6-0, that’s telling. Of course, in true tragic and familiar fashion the Nationals found yet another way to lose in spectacular fashion; painful fashion. Where do we go from here? Mat, Stevie, and Joe discuss on a depressing end of season podcast as the Nationals fall to the Cubs at home. This was it DC, our best shot at defeating the curse, but just like the Wizards losing in an elimination game, Captials too, and Redskins losing a win-and-your-in game last season, the Nationals couldn't pull out a win when the city needed it most. Stevie and Joe discuss what the Redskins need to do to win/dominate the 49ers on Sunday and what the issues will be if they lose. With Shannahan and Garcon returning to face their former team both will be hungry to get the 49ers into the win column for the first time in 2017. The Redskins are the better team, they should win, but this is DC after all and the city is still disoriented after another game five Nationals loss at home... a Redskins win would be the perfect chaser to get us all feeling just a little bit better. Two life-long 49ers fans join the show as well, but ultimately the general thought is the Redskins should win. Stevie like this to be a high scoring game, Joe thinks the opposite... time will tell! The 2017 MLB Postseason has arrived and the Nationals are locked and loaded for a run towards the World Series! Mat, Anthony, Stevie, and Joe talk about expectations for the Nationals vs Cubs series to start on Friday in DC and get into detail about potential pitching rotations, batting order changes, and identify a few unlikely candidates for the title of hero should the Nationals pull off the series win! The DTC crew will be at every Nationals home game throughout the series and will provide analysis and thoughts after every game as well! The Nationals have work to do, and the entire city of DC is collectively, cautiously, awaiting the start to what should be a great series! Do that Nationals have what it take to beat the Cubs... the four of sure think so. Let's go N-A-T-S Nats, Nats, Nats!

 
The Redskins were in position to win, but with a minute on the clock and the defense on the field they couldn't keep the Chiefs from pulling ahead on the final possession. These two teams mirror each other in several ways but with poor clock management and a big shot to win that slipped through our hands the Redskins head into the bye week with a 2-2 record. FP, LP, Stevie, and Joe wrap up the LIVE viewing party from Glory Days and look ahead to the 49ers in two weeks time. This one stings deep... we could have won!
