Defeating the Curse (DTC)

Get your popcorn and settle in as Stevie and Joe breakdown a tough series loss to the Mets for a Nationals team that needed at least two of three to feel better before coming home and ending their nine-game road trip. All three games followed a similar script: Nats take early lead, Nats give up late runs, and in the first two games, Nats blow the save... and boy was it ugly. Stevie is still optimistic as the Nationals played well against their division rival missing several key players but the talk of the town is Juan Soto and his potentially serious injury. If Soto misses considerable time, the season may hang in the balance. Joe forces Stevie to play some EPL trivia while discussing the DC United mess featuring Wayne Rooney and the boys end the show discussing two Netflix Documentaries that premiered recently... Cambridge Analytica anyone? 

FP and LP are here to break down the Redskins preseason game 1. The line is missing a LT, can Donald Penn and Geron Christian be stop gap solutions? The boys discuss. Case Keenum didn't look sharp but did have a TD pass to Robert Davis. Haskins shows that the talent is there but it's still raw and he needs time to develop. What are you looking forward to in week 2? 

As #Redskins training camp ends and the season begins some here at DTC are excited while others are worried. The boys get sidetracked into some inside the beltway talk but it all comes full circle to the Redskins in the end! No Trent is a big problem however young coachable talent at offensive skill positions is still exciting. Stevie, Pete, Razzle, and Joe talk about the weeks that were in Richmond as the Redskins pack up camp and get ready to face the Browns. The QB battle appears to be wide open while the RB battle has settled down into what will be a lucrative timeshare for all parties involved... if, Stevie reminds us, Trent shows up! Joe is excited to see this young and promising defensive front take the field while Pete has questions about the timing of some of the Redskins cuts this offseason most notably Mason Foster. Joe has the #Redskins winning 10 games, Pete has them winning 7, Stevie is at 6, and Razzle is at 4. The show ends with a spirited discussion about the ongoing presidential debates because after all this is DC! 

The #Nationals made some trades, brought in some new faces, but have dropped three straight series over the past two weeks that have Stevie and Joe asking questions. Most notably the Nationals are off to a rough start dropping two in the dessert one of which saw Strasburg get hit over and over and over again. The Nationals are now in a virtual tie with the #Phillies for the final wildcard spot with #Arizona and NY #Mets not far behind. With 50 games to go the postseason is getting closer and closer and the #Nats have to find a way to win without one of their Aces for at least another week. Stevie and Joe share their thoughts after another mass shooting and ask everyone listening to pray for the communities impacted but also for the politicians and law makers who have to tackle this difficult task of "change"... God Bless America.

Stevie and Joe discuss all things #Nationals as the curly "W" goes in the books! Strasburg goes for 3 hits, 5 RBIs, and one big homer but that is just the proverbial tip with this team and its recent surging in the standings! The #Nats have found the bats, they have found some pitching, and they have found themselves. All they did was get healthy and the rest is history... we hope! Stevie and Joe preview the rest of the Braves series, talk about the Dodgers and Rockies too, and talk about potential needs that can be addressed prior to the deadline (if needed). The Wizards have been busy acquiring young talent and draft picks while the Nets made a huge splash landing KD, Kyrie, and DJ... however, Joe believes the 76ers and Jazz are having better off-seasons while LP is on Boston and 20 thinks the Lakers are unbeatable if Kawhi joins them. The trio debate the crazy start to NBA free agency including DLo to the Warriors and IT to the Wiz. The boys also discuss the USWNT win over England and look ahead towards the World Cup finale too! LP, FP, 20, Canada, and Joe discuss what was the NBA Finals and MVP Kawhi's next move. The guys also discuss the confusion surrounding the Wizards, the chaos caused around the league by the injuries in the bay area, and expectations for the upcoming draft in a few days time. Harrison Barnes has opted out of his current deal, Al Horford too, and Brad Beal may be on the way to NOLA for the 4th pick too... crazy, this league is crazy! Joe also shares his thoughts on why the NBA has a big problem on its hands because people seem to care more about the post-season than the actual season. Does Mo Salah have a nice body? We will debate!

LP has the Warriors in 3, Canada has the Raptors in 6, Money has the Warriors in 7, FP is on the Warriors in 4, Stevie doesn't care, and Joe hasn't decided yet! The NBA Finals tip on Thursday night and Canada, Money, and Joe are on the podcast talking about matchups, betting lines, over/under, MVP candidates, and of course making predictions. Canada is convinced the Raptors will be fresh and the Warriors will be rusty after a week off, Money doesn't care and is adamant that with or without KD the Warriors will win, and Joe just wants everyone to bet the under on game 1 which is set way to high! The entire country is on the Raptors + all of North Mexico (aka Canada)... its the Finals and it starts Thursday!

Pete, Canada, and Joe discuss the greatest shot in Canadian basketball history, after listening to it in several languages, then put a bow on the 76ers season, then turn their attention to the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. First, in the east, can anyone stop the Bucks and their balanced rotation, and similarly in the west, are the Blazers deep enough to knock off the Warriors. The trio also discuss the Durant to Knicks rumor and speculate on the which team getting Zion would be the best for the NBA.... also CP3 is over-rated, Harden isn't as good as his stats, and the Nets may be the sleeper team to land some big-name free agents this summer.

Finally, we get the episode we deserve the fifth time out in season eight and Joe and Stevie are ready to discuss. We get the full heel-turn of Dani, the full wake-up call for Jon, and the grand finale of Hound v Mountain! The star of this episode was Tyrion. He was doing what he does best, planning, executing, and calculating what needs to be done next. Yes there was still some sloppy writing, and plot-holes that don't make any sense, but with the armor finally off, we said goodbye to more than a few characters that we have gotten to know very well over the years. 

LP and Joe are back to breakdown the Redskins 2019 draft class in detail and shed some light on what caused the stars to align for Bruce Allen to have the best day of his tenure as a member of the 'Skins front office! The boys also discuss what went wrong in NY and why Rosen going to the Dolphins was a sneaky good move by the 'fins and a terrible move by the forever-rebuilding Cardinals. LP has the Redskins at 10-6 after breaking down the schedule while Joe has them at 9-7 but making the playoffs because of scheduling which affords them six straight NFC contests to end the season! Elsewhere... LP can't talk GoT but wanted to chat about the NBA while Joe shared some thoughts on the EPL season.

Tiger Woods is back what an amazing sports story and story in general. The C.A.P.S. started out strong going up 2 on the Carolina Hurricanes but injuries have struck once again. The caps were already without Kempny now down Oshie as well. DSP has been recalled can he bring the good luck once again? The NBA playoffs are boring, the NBA needs to do something to bring some excitement back into the league. The Wizards are still GMless but feeling the effects of poor choices from the previous GM. Defeat the Curse is now Defend the Cup for all things Capitals as the NHL playoffs get underway! FP and Joe preview the Caps/Canes matchup (1-17) including do's and don'ts for the Great 8! Looking a bit further ahead, can anyone really challenge Tampa? Joe then welcomes Dan to the pod (18-34) to discuss his UVA Wahoo's vs Texas Tech in the NCAA national championship final. Dan is bullish betting the over with a predicted final score of 65-63 with UVA winning led by a resurgent De'Andre Hunter who knows he has one more game to prove the Redeem Team deserves this title! Afterwards Joe sits down with George Mason legend Lamar Butler to discuss the Patriots cinderella run (34-45), his professional career, life as a coach, and his business ventures... oh and we get his take on the big game as well. Emergency Pod style! There is way too much going on in DC sports today. Bryce Harper issues a statement to all DC sports fans. Is it too little too late? Ernie Grunfeld is fired after 16, yes sixteen, 1-6 years. Unbelievable that a GM who has not won a title was able to keep a job for that long. Nevertheless he is no longer here. The Caps are about to embark on their playoff push, without star defensemen Michal Kempny. The pressure is certainly off of them, and they are the defending Stanley Cup champions so the pressure should be off. Finally the national media is reporting to watch out for the Redskins as a team still interested in Josh Rosen. Is a first round pick too steep of a price? CJ Mosely gets an insane amount of money for playing inside line backer, Zach Brown and Mason Foster may be traded, Preston Smith and Ty Nsekhe get paid, this plus much more on this pod with LP and FP. The wait is over, the DTC podcast is back! Joe is riding solo today re-visiting the biggest sports topics of the past month from the Super Bowl to LeBron James, Jason Witten to Bryce Harper, and from Gov Ralph Northam to POTUS to Kim Jung Un, and literally everything in between… there is something for everyone! Joe discusses Tom Brady and his ridiculous career and Russel Westbrook and his ridiculous stat lines going back several seasons. He also gets into Kaep and his settlement with the NFL followed by his ridiculous request for $20m to play in the AAF or XFL. Will Kyler Murray be a Redskins? Probably not but Joe is confident that Antonio Brown will land in Jacksonville with St Nick while Lamar Jackson will fail in Baltimore. ESPN prayers answered as Witten returns to Cowboys and Bryce Harper will make approx $4,000 per plate appearance for the next 13 seasons in Philadelphia. DTC is back! Stevie and Joe are discussing the Bryce Harper saga and the continued rumors and speculation *probably* started by Big Daddy Boris linking Bryce with Phila, San Deigo, Arizona, and maybe just maybe Chicago... one team of note not listed, our Washington Nationals. Rob Ryan was hired by the #FireBruceAllen's probably to make the team more appealing for Hard Knocks and HBO as right now there isn't a lot of personalities that would make a summer of filming at Redskins park very interesting, and the duo end with a discussion about the genius of Fyre Festival and the ever-annoying Ja Rule. The NFL Superbowl is going to be played in just a few days. LP and FP are here to preview the big game. Do the Rams have enough in the tank to beat the Patriots? Is TB12 and Belichick just too good to lose to a 2nd year coach and 3rd year QB? Sean McVay + Jared Goff combined age 57, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick combined age 157 or something like that. Experience in the big game matters and that might be too much for the young guys to handle. At 14:35 the talk shifts to the local football team. Bruce Allen thinks the Redskins are close, close to what? We don't know. Jay Gruden has a new coaching staff, Jimmy Tomsula is returning and one Redskin is ecstatic. Brady gets a chance to book-end his career with another win against the Rams in the Superbowl (21:30) and might he walk off and retire?
